On Aruba you can combine a lovely, luxurious beach holiday with diving. The Antillean island is all tourism and much americanised.
About Aruba
Aruba is an autonomous country within the Dutch Kingdom. Of the Dutch Antilles, Aruba has the most beautiful beaches, according to many. The island is pretty dry though and tropical vegetation is lacking. The cruising industry is a very important pillar under the tourism in Aruba. A large part of the million tourists comes from America and visits Aruba during a cruise. Thanks to tourism the economy on the island prospers. Unemployment is low and the income per capita is the second highest in the Caribbean area. The disappearance of Natalee Holloway and the continuing controversy around Joran van der Sloot has had an enormous impact on the island, though.
Accommodations on Aruba
On Aruba there are plenty luxurious and less luxurious hotels, mainly along the beaches of the westcoast. At Palm Beach you will find the hotels aiming for American tourists. This area is also called the “highrise-area”, because the for Aruban understanding high hotel buildings. Eagle Beach, between Palm Beach and Oranjestad, offers small scaled hotels. In Oranjestad you will find a number of luxurious hotels, luxury shopping malls and touristic shopping streets. If you prefer a place for yourself, than you can think of renting a private apartment.
Diving Aruba
Most dive spots are located in the southwest of the island. Expect everything that makes the Caribbean Sea famous: hard and soft corals, gorgones, sponges and a plethora of tropical fish species. Many spots are easily reachable from the shore. Along the road you will find marked stones to indicate the dive spots. Along the coast in the northwest there are three shipwrecks. At the rougher eastcoast you can find more challenging possibilities for experienced divers.
