Four wrecks in Brunei Bay

Labuan is itself not a very attractive dive destination. If by chance you were there – on a business trip for example – then a wreck dive is certainly well worth the effort.

About Labuan
Labuan lies in the northern part of Brunei Bay, about 10km off the coast of Sabah. The archipelago consists of the most important and largest island, Pulau Labuan, and six smaller islands; Pulau Kuraman, Pulau Daat, Pulau Rusukan Besar, Pulau Rusukan Kecil, Pulau Papan and Pulau Burung. You can reach Labuan by boat. From Menumbok, a small fishing town on Sabah, you can be there in 20 minutes. From Kota Kinabalu the trip takes about 3 hours and from Brunei, 1 hour.

Four wrecks
Labuan is situated close to the mouths of sediment-rich rivers. Therefore, the reefs are not particularly interesting for recreational divers. The four good wrecks to the southwest of Labuan are though. The current can be quite strong on the surface: descend quickly to the leeward side is the advice.

Culture and recreation
Victoria Town is a hectic business centre with modern office buildings and shopping centres. Nature lovers will find beauty in Labuan Bird Park and Labuan Marine Park. The Labuan War Cemetery is a huge memorial to victims of WWII and is a popular destination for residents of Brunei to picnic, swim and snorkel.
