Peace and quiet and nature
The easiest way to Khao Lak is to fly to Phuket. From there you can drive to your destination in one-and-a-half hour. Khao Lak is a quiet place. Shops and restaurants enough, but nightclubs you won’t find. Plenty of resorts. You won’t need a reservation to find a nice room or a luxury bungalow. In the vicinity of Khao Lak you can enjoy the views of waterfalls, rivers and lagoons. The neighbouring National Park characterised by the beautiful combination of jungle and rocky capes.

Two underwater parks
Directly at the coast of Khao Lak are few diving possibilities. The underwater parks Mu Koh Surin and Mu Koh Similan are accessible by boat, though. Both groups of islands are mostly uninhabited and offer tremendous diving possibilities. Mu Koh Surin is only reachable through multiple-day trips, Mu Koh Similan also by daytrip.

Tsunami
Khao Lak was one of the area’s that were heaviest hit by the tsunami of December 2004. Because of its location directly at the coast and the low altitude of the area, the penetrating water had free play.  Over the 3 mile coastline, most of the resorts washed away. Meanwhile the damage in Khao Lak has mostly been repaired. Tourist are welcomed with open arms.
