Hidden and a largely undiscovered diving paradise
Maria la Gorda lies out-of-the-way in the most western point of Cuba. The region is well-known for its rich flora and fauna, underwater as well as on land.

The small beach resort lies within the boundaries of the Guanahacabibes Peninsula Nature Reserve on a spit of land in the Caribbean Sea. Maria la Gorda is 300km from Havana.
Diving Maria la Gorda
The marine reserve around Maria la Gorda, called Ensenada de Corrientes, is protected. Close to the shore you will find coral reefs in perfect condition. Maria la Gorda lies 340km from Havana and can only be reached by land. Most of the dive spots are close to the shore. The reefs are in top condition: offering corals, gorgons, fans and sponges. From September to November whale-sharks may be spotted. There are interesting spots for deep technical dives. Cave divers can enter El Salon de Maria.
