CancĂșn

Touristic party city with white beaches

Cancún has 550,000 inhabitants and is a well-known tourist town where people mainly party. But… don't rule out diving!

About Cancún
At the far southeast of Mexico on the peninsula Yucatán lies Cancún: until 1950 an insignificant fishing town, nowadays a famous party town. The Mexican government and international investors have made Cancún into a tourist town. Cancún nowadays is visited yearly by three million tourists, mainly from the United States. The city is also a good base to explore the peninsula of Yucatán. Near the coast are the northern coral reefs of the Caribbean Sea.

Diving Cancún
On a holiday in Cancún you don’t automatically think about diving. Even so, a dive – especially for beginners – is worth serious consideration. The bay between Cancún and the small island Isla Mujeres is shallow, sheltered and never deeper than 27 feet. Ideal for your first dives. Outside the bay there is a slight current. Here, the reefs slope down to 50 feet at most. From Cancún you can boat dive near the islands Isla Mujeres and Isla Contoy, where you can also spend the night. Cave divers can eat their hearts out in the cenotes of Yucatán.
