About Pulau Sipadan
Pulau Sipadan rises as a column from the seabed. Only the apex sticks out above the water. It is a privilege to visit the island. Figuratively: because this idyllic island is well worth the effort – to make an understatement. Yet also, literally, because the number of visitors is restricted. Anyway you can’t stay on the island. In order to protect the nature all dive schools and accommodations had to leave the island in 2004. The island is now a bird sanctuary managed by the Sabah Wildlife Department. It is easiest to reach Pulau Sipadan from Pulau Mabul, Pulau Kapalai or Semporna.
Diving Pulau Sipadan
Only 100 divers and snorkellers per day are allowed to enter the waters around Pulau Sipadan. If you are one of the lucky ones, you will get the chance to enjoy an amazing palette of corals. Where the diversity of corals is concerned, there are few destinations to rival Sipadan. In addition the island is known for its many sea turtles and white tip reef sharks.
