El Quseir
El Quseir is a fishing village, to the south of Hurghada, where resorts are scattered along a coastline of fringe reefs.
About El Quseir
In the village of El Quseir, which dates back to the 10th century, you can still get a feeling for the traditional Egyptian fishing way of life. Once it was the largest shipping port of the Red Sea, the beginning for expeditions to Yemen and Somalia. In the village centre stands an old fort dating back to the Ottoman Empire. Spread all along the coast are now a handful of hotels and resorts. Approximately 100km north of El Quseir is an airport to which a few airlines fly.
Diving El Quseir
Diving around El Quseir is comparable to that of Marsa Alam. The area was, until quite recently, only accessible by live-aboards. Directly off the coast lies 100km of fringe reefs. By boat you can reach Elphinstone Reef and the dive spots of Safaga.
