Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen is a seaside resort with 100,000 inhabitants about 45 miles south of Cancún, by the river Maya. The resort offers an alternative for the crowded Cancun.
About Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen, in short Playa, has been the point of departure for boats to Cozumel for centuries. The former fishers’ village for that matter has been ‘discovered’ by tourists on their way to that island. The resort is a quieter and more distinguished alternative for Cancun. The beach is wider and the sea calmer. Many resorts maintain an all-inclusive formula. Playa has a shopping street and some cosy restaurants, but most tourists stay the on and around their resort for the whole of their vacation.
Diving at Playa del Carmen
From Playa del Carmen you can do boat dives on the reefs in front of the coast and around the island Cozumel. Cave divers can eat their hearts out in the Cenotes of Yucatán.
