Pulau Lankayan

Tropical island, water full of macro marine life

Pulau Lankayan was declared a protected area in 2000. The waters surrounding the island offer a large biodiversity and pristine, healthy coral. Lankayan is a paradise for macro photographers.

Diving Lankayan
The island, Pulau Lankayan, consists of tropical rainforest encircled by stunning beaches. Diving takes place primarily off boats and the dive spots are close to the coast. The macro world is especially extraordinary. Apart from the smaller tropical fish you will also encounter giant octopi, barracudas, mackerel, sharks and eels. In April you will come across whale sharks around Lankayan and sometimes even a dugong. The hard and soft corals, gorgons and sponges are healthy and colourful. Coral bleaching is not a great problem here.

Two wrecks
The two wrecks are completely different. The “Lankayan Wreck” was a poaching ship that fished illegally and was sunk. Now it is home to a diversity of fish types, such as the small cardinal fish and larger perch. An impressive spot at a depth of 23 meters.
