About Safaga
In the 1990’s diving around Safaga occurred only from live-aboards and dive camps near Marsa Alam. These days you can stay in one of the many resorts, spread along the road to Marsa Wadi Lahami, which often have their own private beaches. The village has a unique feel, meaning there is “little to do”. There is no nightlife apart from the beach parties organised by divers and surfers. The seawater near Safaga is more enriched with minerals than elsewhere, therefore, enabling Safaga to advertise itself as a “health resort”. It is also possible to take a ferry to Jordan and Saudi Arabia from here.

Diving Safaga
According to many, one can compare diving around Safaga with diving in Sharm el-Sheikh towards the beginning of the 1970’s: healthy coral, huge fish, schools of pelagic fish and many brightly coloured reef fish. Visibility is fantastic. The reefs near Safaga remain in good condition. The development of the town has not caused any damage and the coral has had little effect from bleaching. There are many diveable wrecks lying around. Turtles and sharks abound, especially a little further out from the shore. The reefs to the east of Safaga island lie on the windward side. Day boats will only go there on calm days.

Great Excursion Possibilities
A bonus for tourists: Luxor is only 220km away. Here you can easily combine a diving holiday with a visit to Ancient Egypt. An excursion to the granite mines of Mons Claudinus is also worth the effort. Surfers, too, will find plenty of action.
